The Flamingo Hotel & Casino is one of my favorite places to stay in Las Vegas. No matter if you get a room facing the strip or one looking down on the flamingos, it’s a great view! It is located in the center of the Las Vegas Strip, so you can’t ask for a better location.

Hotel
One of the best things about the Flamingo, is the price. This is one of the less expensive places to stay, but we’ve never had a problem with the rooms, so we stayed there most of the times we visited Las Vegas before we moved to Nevada. The rooms are nothing fancy, but they’re clean and the bathrooms are updated to a more spa like feel. The amenities are much the same as other hotels on the strip in terms of free internet, 55″ TVs, hair dryer, safe, etc. Some rooms come with mini fridges if it doesn’t, you can get one for a fee.
Casino
And of course, there is the casino. The casino area itself is a bit spread out but there are over 700 slot machines and 55 table games. One of the nice things about the casino floor is that it surrounds some of the restaurants and also has some machines near the doors to Las Vegas Boulevard where you can watch all the people walking by. The property is going through a lot of changes, so you never know what machines will be there, but they always have some favorites and new games.
Dining
What to do when you get hungry? There are plenty of choices! For your morning coffee and treat there is Nook Express which has coffee and pastries or the new Starbucks. For lunch, you might want to try the food court where you can get pizza at Bonanno’s New York Pizzaria, Wing Zone, Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs or Johnny Rockets for burgers and sandwiches. There is also an Auntie Anne’s pretzels for a quick bite. For dinner, Carlos ‘n Charlie’s is a great Mexican restaurant, or you can choose Bugsy & Meyer’s Steakhouse. We like going to Carlos ‘n Charlies because they often have specials on drinks and appetizers. And the food is great! Bugsy & Meyer’s is a bit pricey (isn’t most everything in Vegas?) but we thought it was well worth it. Like some of the other casinos on the strip, the Flamingo is doing some renovations, and new restaurants are on their way here.
Amenities
My favorite thing here is the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat. This is actually a 4-acre area that has flamingos, other birds and koi fish. There is a pathway that is very peaceful to walk. There is also a wedding chapel in this area. Obviously, a great place for selfies and photos for your memories.
If you love to go to the pool, there are two here. There is the family pool and the Go Pool which is for 21 and older. You can rent lounge beds, daybeds (which gives you storage), or a cabana that comes with a ceiling fan and HDTV. Booking of cabanas include dedicated beverage service. There is also the beach club bar & grill in the pool area. If you plan to stay most of the day at the pool, please remember to bring a hat. The desert sun can be deceiving. I try to go with a baseball type cap or floppy hat. Both of these are easy to pack. Also, don’t forget your sunscreen.
If you prefer, how about a spa treatment? They have massages, facials, body treatments, etc. They do have some spa packages, so be sure to check them out. There is also a fitness center available to hotel guests. Need your nails or hair done? Uno Salon is open daily.
Entertainment & Shopping
For some nightly entertainment, you may want to go see Piff the Magic Dragon, Wayne Newton, the X Burlesque show or RuPaul’s Drag Race! Just be sure to check ahead for show times and tickets. If you enjoy RuPaul there is a store, RuPaul’s Werkroom, where you can shop, get a makeover and meet the performers. The hours are limited: Thursday – Monday 5 PM to 1 AM.
There is also shopping!! There is Essentials to Go for all of those items you may have forgotten along with souvenirs, Promenade Gift Shop with many flamingo souvenirs, sport team apparel, snacks, wine, etc. Marshall Rousso carries women’s fashion, Magnet Max has quirky gifts, Flamingo Wine & Spirits, Magnet Max has Las Vegas souvenirs, Promenade Wine & Spirits which carries not only wine and spirits but also has snacks, sundries, non-alcoholic drinks and much more. As you head to the Promenade, there are a few more shops to check out: Karma and Luck, Team Fans, Coltan Electronics and the combined space that has Oculus Sunglasses and Desley Paris which has custom luggage.
LINQ Promenade
For more shopping and great restaurants head to the LINQ Promenade. A couple of our favorites are Chayo Mexican Kitchen +Tequila Bar and Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen & Bar. If you just want a quick bite, try Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips, Haute Doggery or In-N-Out burger to name a few. If you’re ready for a drink, try the I Love Sugar store, the first floor is a giant candy store, but the second floor has a Martini Bar with giant sweet drinks with candy themes. If sweet is not your thing, try the minus5 ICEBAR. There are quite a few other choices on the promenade, so be sure to check it out. Some of the shops you might want to try are Welcome To Las Vegas store, Honolulu Cookie Company and Nectar Bath Treats. This is also where you can go on the High Roller Observation Wheel, ride the zipline and have virtual reality adventures. This is also a nice place to just take a stroll.
Conclusion
The Flamingo is pretty much in the center of the strip and that’s another reason why I love staying there. It is an easy walk to many of the casinos and a short cab ride to the rest of the casinos. It has a lot of amenities, and the casino floor has lots of new and old games to play. I believe that the Flamingo is a great choice especially if you’d rather spend money on gambling and entertainment and not the hotel room. If you are a veteran, all Caesar’s properties in Las Vegas off up to 30% off rooms. You can also get the Salute player’s card which offers all the benefits of a platinum card including free parking and valet, and discounts at the many stores. If you are a local, Caesar’s also has discounts for you! You can get 15% of day beds and cabanas and spas/salons on Sundays or 20% Mon. – Thurs. and 20% off the Linc zipline or High Roller.
