For the most part, locals tend to stay away from the strip. I think everyone loves the strip, but with all the tourists it gets a little too busy if you want to just gamble. All of the off-strip casinos love both tourists and locals. I’ll tell you about some of the more well-known ones here. Here’s a short view of some of these. I’ll do individual blogs with more detailed information for you to get a better feel for them.

South Point Hotel & Casino

There is plenty to do at South Point not only for locals but for tourists. Let’s start with the many non-gambling things to do here. There is a 16-screen movie theater, 64 lane bowling alley, arcade, gift shop, outdoor pool, spa, barbershop and salon. The Equestrian Center and Arena has something happening almost daily. We went to see the Clydesdale horses here along with some Nascar events. If you’re hungry there are 11 restaurants and a Starbucks to start your day. The hotel rooms come with standard amenities along with mini fridges. Although the locals do take advantage of some of these things, they go to gamble, and you can certainly do that here. There are over 2100 slot machines, a poker room, table games and bingo. I think you should be able to find something you love here. If you decide to stay here, they offer 10% off rooms to player’s club cardholders and to all active and retired military. They also offer 20% off to locals on spa treatments. It is a favorite of ours not only for the gambling, but for events here.

M Resort & Casino

The M Resort is about 17 minutes from the strip. They really cater to sports lovers, especially Golden Knights and Raiders fans. One thing the M Resort does for locals is access to their pool. They also have Daydream pool club, which is a 21+ pool area that was created by locals for locals. If you are staying at the resort, you can also go to this pool. The pool area for any age also has 2 hot tubs. If you are looking for a day of relaxation, you can visit Spa Mio or go to the fitness center. When those hunger pangs hit, there are 5 restaurant choices plus a bakery. But what about gambling? The M has over 1000 slot machines and table games. This is one of the off-strip casinos you should visit at least once. The M offers up to 30% off rooms to active and retired military. For locals, they also offer up to 30% off rooms, but only at certain times, so please check their website. Make sure you have your Penn Entertainment player’s card as it can be used at any of their casinos across the country. We usually do pretty good here on slots and they have some awesome gelato at Baby Cakes Artisan Bakery if you like gelato which obviously we do. We have eaten at a few restaurants here and have always enjoyed our food. Overall, I think it’s one of the better casinos off the strip.

Silverton Casino

If you are someone who loves to be outdoors, then Bass Pro Shop is probably one of your favorite stores and that is what the Silverton Casino offers. Along with the huge Bass Pro Shop, is the aquarium that has mermaids in it!! They also have a Mermaid School for both children and adults. The hotel is newly renovated and has the normal amenities along with a mini fridge and Starbucks in room coffee. When you are ready to eat, there are 6 restaurant choices along with a Starbucks. Then there is the casino: not only do they have over 1100 slot machines, but they have a room that has only Dragon Link machines and a room for Buffalo machines. So if these are your favorites, you don’t have to go far to play these. They also have 26 table games here. I for one love this casino and always seem to do well here. As far as discounts here, they do different groups each day of the week. Check their website for offers and what day may apply to you.

Boyd’s Casinos:

Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall

Sam’s Town is just one of many Boyd owned casinos in Las Vegas but one of the most popular not only for locals but for visitors who don’t want to stay on the strip. It is known as the first “locals” casino since it was the first built off-strip. The hotel has rooms that face the strip, or you can get one with a view of Mystic Falls which is a little indoor park-like area inside Sam’s town that has a laser and water show daily. As you walk through there are gazebos and park benches to sit, a bar, McDonald’s, Panda Express and a gift shop. But that’s not all Sam’s Town has to offer. There is a pool, an arcade, bowling alley, movie theater and bingo hall and a salon if you feel like getting pampered. If you’re hungry there are plenty of choices with a couple fast-food restaurants, a steakhouse and TGIFriday’s . There is also a Dunkin’ Donuts for your breakfast munchies and coffee. Now let’s talk about the casino which is what the locals go there for. There is poker, keno, table games and over 3300 slot machines. How can you go wrong here? All Boyd’s hotels offer 10% off rooms for active and retired military. We always enjoy a trip here.

Aliante Casino & Hotel

Another Boyd’s property that locals enjoy. The hotel has normal amenities along with mini fridge in room. There is a pool with jacuzzi, a spa, 24-hour fitness center, and 650 seat showroom for shows. There are 5 restaurants to sooth those food cravings and a Starbucks. One of the reasons this casino is so well liked is the 2500+ slot machines and 40 table games. This is a beautiful hotel and worth checking out.

Orleans Hotel & Casino

Another Boyd’s property liked by locals; Orleans is a Mardi Gras themed casino. The amenities for the hotel include a pool and fitness center. There are 6 restaurants, a Baskin Robbins and Java Vegas Coffee. The popularity with locals is the 3000+ slot machines table games, keno and poker. Pretty much anything you want as far as gambling. We haven’t made it here yet, so I can’t tell you much about it.

Fremont Hotel & Casino

Not only is this great casino on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas, but the casino floor has been renovated and is really bright with a great food court and Tony Roma’s steakhouse. There are over 700 slot machines and 26 table games.

Most Boyd’s casinos are enjoyed by locals, and they do offer discounts to locals which vary monthly.

Station Casinos

Green Valley Ranch Resort

This resort is not only a favorite of locals but also to our visitors to Las Vegas. It not only is a great resort but has a big conference room that often has meetings there. The hotel offers the usual amenities for the rooms. There is a movie theater, kid and cyber quest zones, and fitness center. One of the things that both locals and visitors come here for is the spa and salon. There are many choices for you when you get hungry. There are 7 restaurants and a food court. If you want to do some shopping walk across the street to The District at Green Valley. Of course, most locals come for the casino and Stations offers slot play monthly for locals. There are over 2500 slot machines, table games and keno. If you are looking for somewhere off strip, I would put this on my list. We often come here not only to gamble, but eat!

Sunset Station

This is one of the first local casinos and is still loved by the local community. The hotel has the usual amenities, but the pool here is really quite pretty. There are plenty of non-gambling things to do here including a movie theater, bowling alley, fitness center and a cyber & kids’ quest. There are 5 restaurants and a food court. The casino floor is what draws locals here. It is very large and has over 2500 slot machines, table games, a keno area and bingo. Another place to consider if you are looking off strip. We come here often not only because it is close but has a great atmosphere and good food. They have been doing a lot of renovations here with a big sportsbook area and new lighting. It is really inviting, and I highly suggest at least stopping by and checking it out.

Red Rock Resort & Casino

Red Rock not only has luxurious rooms but has the beautiful scenery of Red Rock Canyon. It has over a dozen restaurants for your dining pleasure. There are over 2800 slot machines, 68 table games and 20 poker tables, keno and sportsbook. They also have the same non-gambling amenities as other stations casinos: Movies, bowling, kid’s quest, Cyber quest and swimming pool. If you want to do some shopping, Summerlin is right down the street with plenty of shopping options. While you’re there, take a drive or do some hiking in Red Rock Canyon. I love that there is so much to do not only at the casino, but in the area.

Stations has four other properties in the Las Vegas area: Boulder Station, Palace Station, Santa Fe Station, and the newest addition is Durango Resort. Stations offer their Hero’s rate to active and retired military of 15% off rooms. They also have room packages with discounts, so be sure to check their website. For locals, resort fees are waived, and you can get free slot play certain days of the month. Each month changes, so be sure to check what your days are with your player’s card.

Conclusion

As you can see there are many choices if you want to go off strip for your trip to Las Vegas. These are only a few choices and there are so many small local casinos that really are more for the surrounding neighborhood to have somewhere close to play. Just remember to always get a player’s card because you will get discounts on food and rooms and possibly free play. Wherever you decide to go, I hope you enjoy all it has to offer and the surrounding area. We hope to inspire others to try new places and enjoy every day.
