When we lived in Pennsylvania, we loved doing road trips to Oklahoma! There are so many things to explore there, but of course we wanted to go to casinos. All the casinos in Oklahoma are run by various Native American tribes or nations. All of the ones we have been to have been really great, but sometimes it seems the small ones have the friendliest people. But there are some really beautiful resorts and great casinos, so if you are planning a casino trip I highly recommend going to as many casinos as you can in Oklahoma. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Northeastern Tip of Oklahoma

If you cross into Oklahoma from Missouri on Interstate 44 the first exit is where you will find Downstream Casino Resort. The address is Quapaw and is run by the Quapaw (Oga’xpa) tribe. Quapaw means downstream. This is a beautiful resort with over 1800 slot machines, a poker room, craps and roulette, blackjack and other table games available. There are many amenities, including the Nee Spa, 24/7 fitness center and business center, indoor and outdoor pools, and Heckaton Gift shop. If you like to golf, the Eagle Creek Golf club is the place to go.

You certainly can stay in one of their hotel rooms or there are 2 RV parks you can stay, if you prefer. On the property is the Q-store and gas station.

There are plenty of food choices including Red Oak Steakhouse, Spring River Buffet, Wa-Na-Be’e-De’a (which means come eat) cafe or Legends Sports Bar where you can indulge in the burgers made from the meat of the Quapaw Cattle Company and craft beer from Downstream Brewing Company.

When you’re looking for your coffee in the morning, stop at Ma-Ko’-Sha Coffee shop. The Quapaw tribe opened their own coffee brewing business and serve this great coffee here. The brand is O-Bah-Pah.

They also have their own buffalo herd which you can see from the hotel. This is one of our favorite places to stay in Oklahoma.

Miami, OK

Just a short drive on the Oklahoma Turnpike heading to Tulsa, is the small town of Miami. This is also on Historic Route 66 and you can follow this to Tulsa and see some unique sights. For such a small town, there are 5 casinos here. The first is the Quapaw Casino, owned by the Quapaw. It is a little out of town but still has a Miami address. This is a small casino with about 500 slot machines. There are a few places to grab food, The Jackpot Grill or appetizers at The Paw Bar.

The next casino is Buffalo Run Casino and Hotel. This is owned & run by the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma. This too is a little out of town, but near enough to visit all of the nearby casinos. Here they have both slot machines and table games. For golfers, there is a Top Golf Swing Suite and available play at Peoria Ridge Golf Course. Amenities include both mini refrigerator and coffee maker in rooms and continental breakfast. Other food choices include, Coal Creek restaurant, The Bistro for lighter fare and Backwoods Bar & Grill featuring BBQ fare. There is also a gift shop. We have stayed here a few times and the rooms are clean and we enjoyed it here.

The Stables is another smaller casino in Miami. This is owned by the Modoc Nation, and they actually do stable horses here. This is slot machine only casino, but it is a lot of fun. There is the Winner’s Circle Restaurant and 2 bars here if you are hungry. The people here are super friendly, and it is very clean.

Next is Prairie Moon/Sun casino. This is owned and operated by the Miami Nation tribe. This is also a slot machine only casino and pretty small, but everyone is so great here. If you get hungry, you can go to The Restaurant at Prairie Moon.

Last but not least, is High Wind casino. This is owned and operated by the Ottawa tribe of Oklahoma. This is a little outside of town, but I thought it was worth going to. There are over 450 slot machines here. There is a steakhouse if you get hungry and a tobacco/gift shop.

We stop at all of these when we a traveling through on our way to Tulsa and enjoyed all of them every time!

Tulsa

Right before you get to Tulsa downtown, you come to Catoosa, OK and the Hard Rock Tulsa Hotel and Casino. This is operated by the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. It is home to over 2600 slot machines, poker and table games.

Hotel amenities include both adult and family pools, Body Rock Fitness center, open 24/7, a business center, and Rock shop gift shop. For the golfers, you can play at Cherokee Hills Golf Club.

Along with a food court which has burger, pizza and Mexican fare, there are 3 restaurants for those hunger pangs. HWY 66 is a casual dining restaurant, The Eatery Buffet and McGill’s Steakhouse. The Perfect Cup is a coffee shop that is open 7am to noon daily. When we were here, it was very crowded, and we didn’t stay long. It looked like it would be a nice place to stay, but too busy for us.

Just a little outside of Tulsa, is the Osage Casino Resort. This is owned and operated by Osage Nation. If you saw the movie Killers of the Flower Moon, you know some of the history of Osage Nation. Casinos have helped them rebound to a strong tribe. This is one of our favorite places to stay. The rooms are always really clean and comfortable. Amenities include Pool and hot tub, 24/7 fitness center, and business center.

The casino includes over 1600 slot machines, table games, craps and roulette tables. When you get hungry stop by Stone Creek Kitchen. We always eat here at least once. There is also RoniPeppo’s Pizza or the Thunder Bar & Grill.

If you need gas or some munchies, there is a gas station and store on the property.

River Spirit Casino and Resort is in downtown Tulsa along the Arkansas River. One of my favorite things about staying here is the river walk from the hotel to a small park. This casino is owned and operated by Muscogee (Creek) Nation.

River Spirit is essentially two casinos. River Spirit and Margaritaville. It has slot machines, table games and poker. Hotel amenities include Emerge Spa and Resort pool, business center, fitness center, and retail shops.

There are plenty of choices for food, including a coffee shop, but the biggest attraction is the Margaritaville restaurant and gift shop. I have to say the few times we have eaten there the food was really good and of course you have to get a margarita!

This is also a hot spot in Tulsa for entertainment with the 2500 seat arena, The Cove. Make sure if you do plan to go to a show here and want a hotel room, book far in advance. We don’t always stay here, but we always stop and at least gamble a little!

Surrounding areas

If you do an hour radius from Tulsa or Miami, there are quite a few more casinos. But we haven’t made it to a lot of them. If you drive anywhere in Oklahoma, you will probably find a casino or two. If you love to go to casinos like we do, stop at as many as possible, I think you will have a good time!

Make sure you get players club cards in any casino you go to and take advantage of the special offers you can get with them. Obviously, some of the ones in Oklahoma can only be used there, but there are quite a few tribes that have several casinos in the state where the card is good. Hard Rock Unity card is the one that can be used at any Hard Rock property.

Conclusion

Oklahoma is a great place to visit not only if you enjoy gambling, but also rich in history. There are so many things to do here that you could probably spend weeks here! I hope that if you get a chance, you consider visiting Oklahoma. We love to tell people about places we’ve been and hope to encourage you to find your adventure. Even if you just have time to take a day trip, you will be amazed at things you can find near you.
