We love traveling in Oklahoma because of all the great Native American history and the Casinos! All casinos in Oklahoma are owned and operated by a Native tribe. We have enjoyed every casino that we have been in (and it’s a lot). There are small ones, resorts, and in between but every one of them has great people and are a lot of fun. Here I’m going to focus on the 5 casinos that are in or near Shawnee. The first four I’m going to talk about are casinos only, no hotel attached to them. The Grand Casino is a casino & resort.

The Black Hawk Casino
This casino is owned by the Sac & Fox Nation. It is a mid-size casino, but it has all the new machines and a player’s club with rewards you can get daily. We got a backpack and umbrella when we were there and only played a couple of hours. There are only slot machines here, no table games. There is a restaurant, One River Restaurant and Bar. And another bar, Rapids Bar. The thing we liked best here was the friendliness of the staff. They were so welcoming and helpful. They made sure we knew about the free gifts and how easy it was to get them. We even won a few dollars here!
Kickapoo Shawnee Casino
This casino is owned and operated by Kickapoo Nation of OK. If you’re driving on Interstate 40 you will probably notice their billboards because they are a bright green! Again, another mid-size casino with over 600 slot machines. If you’re hungry, there is Legacy Sports Bar & Grill. They have their own player’s club so make sure you get a card. We still get offers from them for free slot play. We really enjoyed this casino for a quick stop on our trip. How can you not like a casino with such great colors?
Thunderbird Casino
Thunderbird Casino is owned and operated by the Absentee Shawnee tribe. This is a relatively large casino space wise with both table games and over 500 slot machines. They have a player’s club like other casinos, and you can earn rewards. If you’re planning on staying in Shawnee a few days, you can probably earn enough for a decent amount off your meal. The Shawnee Grill is the restaurant here and has a pretty good assortment of items to choose from. We were also very impressed with the staff here, so friendly and informative. Good selection of slot machines too. We really enjoyed this casino.
Citizen Potawatomi Nation Casinos:
The Citizen Potawatomi Nation owns two casinos in Shawnee. The first is Fire Lake Casino. This is a small casino, but it is a great place to go. They have over 700 slot machines. There is a restaurant here, Bistro Grill, but there is also a great taco shop next door that is really good. I highly suggest you try it. There is also the Lucky 7’s bar if you are so inclined. Another thing you can enjoy here is the Fire Lake Golf Course. It is a daily fee course, no membership required. We’ve been here a couple of times and really enjoy ourselves here. Of course, we have a player’s card and have used it for discounted food.
Grand Casino Hotel & Resort
This is the second casino owned by the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. We have stayed here a few times, and it is really convenient to explore both Shawnee and Oklahoma City and a much better price than staying in Oklahoma City. The hotel is your typical hotel with a few upgrades to the bathrooms and rooms. For something different than playing slots, you can spend time on the roof top pool or at the spa. Since Fire Lake is just down the road, you are still close to the golf course, if you rather spend time on the greens. They also have a concert venue with many current acts coming through.
The casino itself is two story with over 2000 slot machines, table games and a poker room. Of course, they have a player’s card so be sure to get one to get offers on rooms, food and slot play.
While you are here, be sure to grab your meals at one of the restaurants. The Grandstand Sports Grill offers typical sports grill food. The Grand Cafe is great for breakfast and if you are looking for a nice dinner try Flame Brazillan Steakhouse or Soto Sushi. If you’re looking for an after-dinner drink, try the Fire & Ice Bar. We have stayed here a few times and always enjoy ourselves. I recommend you check it out.

As you can see, there are many choices for casinos lovers in Shawnee, OK. We always have a good time there and in Oklahoma in general.
