When you’re looking for a nice place to stay not on the Las Vegas strip, South Point is a great alternative. It is only a little over 9 miles from the main hotels on the strip and lots of amenities to keep you busy if you don’t want to go to the strip. Let’s check out what is available here so you can decide if it’s somewhere you would like to stay or visit for the day.

Hotel
Both premium guest rooms and guest suites are available here. The premium rooms are available in either one king bed or two queen beds. Both premium rooms and suites come with mini fridge, 50 inch TV, makeup mirror, iron/ironing board, coffee maker, and safe. Airport shuttle service and free valet parking is also available with any room. There are many different offerings for suites. The Professional Suite offers 1 bedroom with king bed and an open area with executive desk and couch. Junior hotel suites come in 1 or 2 bedrooms with separate bathrooms with roman tubs. The living area has a couch, chair and small desk. Larger suites are also available in 1 or 2 bedrooms. The 1 bedroom includes king bed with 50-inch TV and bathroom with soaking tub. The separate living area includes 3-seat bar, dining area for 6, couch and chairs. The two bedroom is 1500 square feet. One bedroom has a king size bed, the other has 2 queen beds. TVs are in both bedrooms and the living area. Both bedrooms have separate bathrooms with soaking tubs. The living area also has a 3-seat bar, dining for 6 and a couch and chairs. Last but not least, are the Luxury Suites. These also come in 1 or 2 bedrooms. The difference between these suites and the regular suites is they include walk-in closets, bar with a small sink and mini fridge, separate toilets and roman tub and shower in bathrooms. I think you can probably find a room that would meet your needs here. If you are coming when one of the attractions, like a concert or a show at the arena, make sure you book your room well ahead of time as they can fill up fast. We have never stayed here, so I can’t speak to cleanliness or comfort, but from the cleanliness in other areas, I would think they are clean.
Casino
When most people come to Las Vegas they at least want to gamble a little but don’t necessarily want to be on the strip. South Point has you covered. There are over 2100 slot machines and 60 table games. I think they have a great variety of slot machines from new ones to old favorites. We don’t get here often, but we usually do ok here. On top of slots and table games, there is a poker room. It is open 24/7 and non smoking. They do hold tournaments daily here. If you don’t like playing slots or table games, they also do bingo! Games are played 7 times a day here in the bingo hall. I would buy my tickets for the game events I want to play online to be sure to get a seat. They also have separate race and sports book rooms.
Dining
There is quite a selection of restaurants from coffee and breakfast to fine dining. If you just want a cup of coffee there is a Starbucks, but if you want to start your morning off with a nice breakfast you can choose between Coronado Cafe, which is open 24 hours so you may want to go here for lunch or dinner also, or you can go the Garden Buffet which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. For a quick afternoon bite, you can choose the Steak ‘N Shake or Del Mar Deli. For dinner there is a wide variety of choices. If you are leaning towards seafood or Asian, try either Big Sur Oyster Bar or Zenshin Asian Restaurant. Baja Miguel’s Mexican Restaurant is a great cantina style restaurant with great food. Don Vito’s is the place to go if you are looking for some Italian cuisine. Two other great choices are Primarily Prime Rib Restaurant, where you guessed it they do mostly prime rib or Silverado Steakhouse for a more traditional steak restaurant. If you truly looking for some fine dining, Michael’s Gourmet Room is the place for you. My mouth is watering as I write this. I’m thinking I need to try a few more of these restaurants! I can vouch for Baja Miguel’s, but I’m a little biased as I love most Mexican food and restaurants. If you want a little less luxurious desert after all of this great food, stop by Kate’s Korner Ice Cream Parlor for an ice cream cone or milk shake. They also do coffee flavored smoothies.
Entertainment
There are so many things to keep you busy when you are here. There is a 24/7 fitness center if you want to exercise during your stay. There is a wading pool and regular pool which provides towels to all guests. There is also a hot tub and gazebo along with a pool side deli to get snacks and drinks. They also have a store that caters to your pool needs. The Costa Del Sur spa provides you with all your spa needs including body treatments and massages. They do have special packages so be sure to check out their website. They also have a sauna, steam room and whirlpool along with couples’ treatment rooms. The salon offers hair services, manicures and pedicures. There is also a barber shop in the hotel for men who prefer that.
If you want something different to do or have your children with you, there is a 64-lane bowling center complete with shoe rentals, pro shop and snack bar. If bowling isn’t for you, try relaxing in the 16-screen movie theater with luxury reclining seats. There is also an arcade and some shopping at the gift shop. There is a liquor store on property also.
For nightlife activities, they provide concerts and entertainment acts at The Showroom and dance bands at the Grandview Lounge. Check the website for details.
Arena and Equestrian Center
South Point is probably best known for both the arena and equestrian center. The Equestrian Center is considered one of the best in the country with two arenas, 4600 seats in the stands, climate-controlled stalls and much more. It sponsors many horse shows and rodeos here every year.
If you’re a car lover, you probably know all about the arena where Barrett-Jackson holds auctions almost every year. But they have many other types of shows here from the K-9 trials to NASCAR events. Be sure to check the event schedule to see what’s happening when you’re in Las Vegas.
Conclusion
As you can see South Point offers much of the same amenities that you can find in hotels/casinos on the Las Vegas strip, but it offers so much more with bowling and a movie theater, etc. If you are looking for something a little quieter than being right on the strip, I recommend looking into South Point. I think you can probably find what you are looking for here. If you don’t want to go to the strip, but would like to go to other casinos, The Silverton Casino Lodge is only about 5 minutes away and The M Resort Casino and Hotel is about 10 minutes from here. For active and retired military, they do offer 10% off of rooms. If you get a player’s card you can also get 10% off your room rate. Locals of Nevada can get 20% off spa treatments. We always enjoy spending time here, we even got to see the Budweiser Clydesdales once!
